Never again. Levi x reader Chapter 15

As promised, your squad was waiting for you at the supplies shed with various bags clutched in their hands. Patient faces watched curiously as you slowly made your way over to them looking horribly crestfallen. When you finally stopped in front of them you did nothing but order them to put away the supplies and double check that everything was accounted for. While they went to go put it all away, you went over to the nearest bench and sat down, hoping to find a way to explain to Alice that she would not be excused from tomorrows expedition.

You were so deep in thought that you did not notice the large figure looming over you. Only when you heard the clearing of a throat did you look up. You were met with Bruce's large face smiling down on you; only his smile looked somewhat like a grimace, like he was waiting for something bad. After a few moments of him not saying anything, you decided to be the first to break the silence. "What can I do for you Bruce?" He seemed unsure of what to say and stayed silent awhile longer. "Well you know how Alice is pregnant and I was just wondering.... If you could get her excused from tomorrow's expedition?" He asked cautiously. You were slightly shocked that she hadn't told him about earlier, but then again she probably didn't want to get his hopes up.

Even more disappointment washed over yourself as you realized you were going to have to let more than one person down. You stood from the bench and looked Bruce right in the eyes. "I'm sorry, but I am unable to excuse Alice." You said without hesitation. His face fell and he struggled to find his words. "Well maybe if you just ask the commander." You grimaced at the memory of the commanders final word on the matter. "I have already visited the commander. He made it clear that no one would be excused, no matter the circumstance." As you spoke you could not look Bruce in the eyes. "Also," you continued, "could you please repeat to Alice what I told you just now." When you finally looked at Bruce his face was filled with what you could only describe as pure and unfathomable pain. He merely nodded his head and began to head back to the shed. With nothing more to say you pivoted on your heel and quickly walked  away. You could only pray that tomorrow would not end in tragedy. 

That night, as you lay in bed, nightmares of your past and the horrors that may occur tomorrow filled your head. You did not sleep a wink, instead, you paced your room thinking of ways to keep Alice safe. You went over the plan over and over again, burning it into your memory so there would be no mistakes. Finally, when the clock struck 5, you showered and began to prepare as the world around you began to awaken.
